Dear Friends,

"What a perfect concert by five extremely talented, personable musicians! Enjoyed noting a very young girl (who plays violin) in front of us during the concert with her dad --she was just captivated, as was he."

We love hearing from our audience—and from critics, too: Strings Magazine once observed that the DSQ are rare in being able to invest the hundreds of hours of rehearsal needed to perform the Thomas Adés Arcadiana that they did in May. It is rare to find a quartet that rehearse four days a week, year round, but that's what they do. That's how they create the "consistently polished" sound that, according to former NY Times critic Allan Kozinn, people have come to expect from them.

Such comments are music to a musician's ears. But musicians can't live on praise alone, as the woman who mentioned the "captivated" young violinist realized: She ended her email: "We will make a donation to encourage [your] fine work on behalf of Mainers."

We hope you will join her.

We hope you will invest in the Quartet to allow them to invest their time mastering such a challenging and eclectic repertoire. To perform all over the state and country. To perform free for up to 1500 students a year. To keep ticket costs as low as possible. To inspire and captivate—as well as educate—the next generation of music lovers.

Your contributions cover half the cost of doing all this.

Will you help us reach our goal of $120,000? In return, we promise a year filled with exciting events:

  • A summer program, featuring Met Opera singer (and hometown favorite) Kate Aldrich
  • The world premiere of a specially commissioned work by one of America's most sought-after composers, Richard Danielpour. (Details to come!)
  • And much more.

Thank you—and stay in touch!
